KIDS KITCHEN
Sabita Radhakrishna
This book has been written on special request by my four grandchildren. From the three girls Diya, Aditi and Tishara who used to enjoy experimenting in the kitchen and from Aditya our only grandson who believes that food should be cooked “properly” and like all the men in our family appreciates good food!
The children wanted a book all their own to use at will, trying to perfect certain recipes that are their favourites. They all have, at their own pace helped with the book trying out recipes, tasting them, offering their comments, and it has brought me so much joy and the inspiration necessary to write this book.
Aditi in particular has been working alongside doing her illustrations for the book, and often pointing out errors in typing together with suggestions that I include recipes which in her opinion have turned out so well! It was she who gave the book its title.
Adults need to be with the children when they cook and have to necessarily oversee the process. Some of the recipes cannot be handled by children alone, and I know some mothers who will enjoy trying out recipes from Kids Kitchen, because most of them are “child’s play”. It is safer to emphasise that all the recipes given should be under adult supervision and that the parents should use their discretion as to which recipes the children can cook by themselves.
This book has been written for children between the ages of 9-14. Again, it depends on how often the child has been allowed into the kitchen the degree of maturity varies. A small child cannot handle an entire recipe herself or himself, and might need the assistance of an older child or the parent.
Hopefully the book will be out on the shelves in a couple of months.
